That is why each week we bring you the Top 5 Digital and Social Media News that you need to know for this week and present it to you in a short video format.

This week we look at news items related to Google, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Facebook and Wing.

📰 Top 5 Digital & Social Media News

🗞️ News #1 – First commercial drone delivery service by Wing, a Google company

(Wing News – SOURCE)

Our first big news is about a company called Wing, which is a subsidiary of Google, which is into commercial drone-based delivery services.

Last week, they announced in their blog that they have become the first company to deliver products via air commercially in the United States.

Their YouTube video shows people picking up their Wing app and ordering things like medicines and other stuff. And it also shows an employee packing the products into a box and a drone picks it up and flies to the customer’s place and delivers the product. This company was able to procure an Air Operator Certificate, AOC from the Federal Aviation Administration and it is authorized to fly multiple unmanned drones while being monitored by pilots.

This is a big trend related to the digital space because this is connected to multiple areas like logistics, digital, mobile apps, similar to what Uber did to taxis. So you might want to watch the video. This is going to be a big trend in the future, in the days to come.

🗞️ News #2 – Snapchat launches Dynamic Ads option

(Snapchat News – SOURCE)

Last week, Snapchat introduced dynamic ads. Dynamic ads is a very popular option on social media and digital advertising.

It is where an advertiser uploads a product catalog and also tells the platform what the target segments are. And the platform automatically picks up different products from the catalog and displays that to the audience.

This has worked very well for advertisers on Facebook and Instagram. Now, Snapchat joins this list of channels that offers dynamic ads.

So if you are reaching out to younger audiences using Snapchat, then this could be helpful for you, especially Gen Z and Millennials who use mobile a lot. Because this ad format that Snapchat has come out with is completely mobile-based and it is very helpful if you are focusing on those two segments.

🗞️ News #3 – LinkedIn is testing a new multiple-message management feature

(LinkedIn News – SOURCE)

LinkedIn seems to be testing a new feature called ‘Manage Conversations’, which will help you manage multiple message threads within LinkedIn’s inbox.

If you know, the direct messaging inbox on LinkedIn is not easy when it comes to bulk messaging. You cannot select multiple messages at once and take action. You have to do it one by one.

Now LinkedIn is testing this feature and if this comes out it will be very valuable and will save a lot of time for us who manage multiple conversations inside LinkedIn.

🗞️ News #4 – Google Maps now lets you report incidents using the mobile app

(Google Maps News – SOURCE)

Last week, the Google Maps team added a new feature to their mobile app where a user can easily report an incident on the road.

Suppose you’re using Google Maps and you’re on your way, and you find that there is a construction going on, or one of the lanes is closed, or there is an incident, then you can quickly add it and report it, so that other users who are going to take the same route will benefit. You just have to click the plus button on your Google Maps mobile app and these options will show up.

And you can quickly select so that you don’t have to do big typing and other things while you are on the steering.

I really liked the way Google approaches the process of collecting data, real-time from the users on the ground.

Now, this is something, as a leader of a nonprofit or a ministry, this is something that you need to think about as an approach – how can you collect information from your congregation, from your staff, from the people on the road easily so that you can make it very user-friendly? Whatever you’re creating, whether it’s content or app or software or whatever you’re creating, the approach of Google is something that we all need to learn from.

🗞️ News #5 – Facebook releases templates to customize Stories Ads

(Facebook News – SOURCE)

Facebook has introduced templates for creating Stories Ads, which can be customized for your needs.

‘Stories’ are a very popular type of content right now on social media. This is a disappearing content that people create showcasing their everyday life and people just love it. So there is a big increase in the viewership.

And therefore releasing ads within Stories can have a big impact if you’re trying to reach the right audience. This is a feature where Facebook gives you customizable templates.

So you don’t have to create or hire a designer to create your Stories ad. You can easily upload your images or text and quickly create Stories ads, that works really well on Facebook and on Instagram as well. Do check it out or pass it on to your social media team.
