We know you are busy. And we know that most of you don’t have the time to search the big world wide web for the current news that is relevant to you.

That is why each week we bring you the Top 5 Digital and Social Media News that you need to know for this week and present it to you in a short video format.

This week we look at news items related to Facebook, Apple, Google, Twitter and McDonald’s.

📰 Top 5 Digital & Social Media News

🗞️ News #1 – Apple releases multiple new products & hints at new trends.

Last week, Apple announced the release of multiple new products including a new iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and a series of other announcements.

A couple of things really caught my attention because they point to a trend. Apple is an innovative company that always works on something that is important for the future of the digital space.

  1. Apple Arcade: Apple Arcade is a gaming subscription service, where you pay a small subscription to access multiple games. When Apple enters the space, you know how important gaming content is. This is where people spend a lot of time & money, which means they are being influenced by the content on the games. So you as a leader of nonprofit or ministry, pay attention to it and see if gaming content is something that you want to think about when trying to serve people.
  2. iPhone 11 Pro: This is the high-end model that they announced with four different cameras. Three cameras at the rear side and one camera at the front side of a phone. Now the interesting thing is, the phone is so powerful that it can show you the footage of all the four cameras at the same time! (See Review from Justine Ezarik Here). And if you want, suppose you are standing on stage, you can place the camera on a tripod and it can shoot you on stage and the audience on the other side with the rear camera, at the same time. And you can record it. Just imagine that.

Things are getting simpler, devices are making things easier for you to create content. Such an interesting trend.

🗞️ News #2 – Facebook expands its ‘Today In’ local news feature.

(SOURCE)

Facebook announced that it is expanding its local news feature to 6,000 cities and towns across the US.

‘Today In’ is the local news tab that is within Facebook. If you live in the US or Australia, you will be able to see that tab.

This tab will give you news, information and conversations about your local community. They’ve been testing this since 2018 and now they are saying that they will expand it to more cities and towns. This goes to show how important local news is for people on social media.

If you are a nonprofit or ministry wanting to influence a local community or a city, then this is a news that you might want to make a note of.

🗞️ News #3 – Make your Twitter bio more readable with line breaks.

(SOURCE)

Twitter now allows you to add line breaks in your Twitter ‘bio’ section.

Even though this sounds like small news, Twitter is a very influential social media channel and how you present yourself on Twitter or what you write about yourself on Twitter Bio is very important.

Adding line breaks in that bio can help you add more relevant information in a short and sweet way so that people get the right picture of you when they look at your Twitter bio.

I highly recommend you check it out and see if you have to reorganize your Twitter bio.

🗞️ News #4 – McDonald’s new acquisition points to a key trend in A.I.

(SOURCE)

McDonald’s, the fast-food company announced last week that they are acquiring an A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) based technology company that will help them automate their drive-through process.

This technology will listen to the customer as they’re driving in and understand what they’re saying, and place the order, making everything quick and automated.

The reason I wanted to bring this to your notice is that (A.I.) Artificial Intelligence is not just a distant technology tool anymore. It is starting to get more and more into our daily, everyday life and maybe it can solve some problems that you as a nonprofit and ministry are facing on a day-to-day basis.

So you as a leader need to be aware of how important A.I. is, how evolved A.I. is and how it could become a tool that could help you minister to people better.

🗞️ News #5 – Google releases report on Artificial Intelligence for Social Good.

(SOURCE)

Last week, Google released a report on A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) solving social problems.

This report is based on a challenge that Google had kicked off in October 2018 called Google AI Impact Challenge. They had invited organizations from around the world to submit their ideas about how they would solve social problems using Artificial Intelligence.

The interesting thing is, 55% of the nonprofits that submitted their ideas had no prior experience with Artificial Intelligence technology.

This goes to show that all you need is a passion to solve a problem and a rough idea of how technology can do it, and you can still get support.

This report with all the learnings that Google had from the 2,600 applications, was very fascinating. DOWNLOAD IT HERE.
