🗞️ News 1: YouTube Partners with Frontier & Moves Towards the Future of TV

Source: YouTube

Google wants YouTube TV to be the future of television. For the last couple of years, they’ve been taking steps towards that. And last week there was a significant announcement with a partnership with Frontier Fiber optic cable internet service provider. So basically the audience will get internet and television provided to their home with a single bill. This is an arrangement that shifts the dynamics in the television industry. So if you’re a ministry focused on TV as a media, you might want to pay attention to the shift because the announcement says “our partnership with YouTube TV makes it easier for customers to ditch cable. And we take our position as the Un-Cable provider seriously”. And the announcement also says “many want one source for internet and TV, and that’s what this partnership is all about”

🗞️ News 2: Meta Announces Testing of New Ad Tools for Retail, eCommerce Campaigns

Source: Meta

Meta announced that they are testing two new advertising tools, especially related to retail and e-commerce. So if you are a nonprofit or a ministry that has some component of retail sale or e-commerce in your ministry, then these two could be something that you could look at. The more important thing about this announcement is it also shows that these ads are ways in which it can help meta overcome the problem of privacy with iOS restrictions, etc. The first is Local Inventory Ads. These will enable organizations to dynamically target users near their stores with the relevant product availability and pricing. So if somebody’s near the physical location of your ministry, you will be able to target them. The other is Managed Partner Ads Lite, which is more for bigger brands, but this will enable you to leverage your own CMS and your partner’s CMS to target people with ads.

🗞️ News 3: Microsoft Builds An Image Creator Powered by DALL-E Inside Bing App

Source: Microsoft

Microsoft continues to build AI capability into its products, and now it has announced that they have an image creator built right inside the Bing app. So if you open the Bing mobile app, you will see a tab called Apps and you click on it and you’ll be able to see the new Image Creator, AI image create icon. You click on it and you can basically explain the type of image that you want the image creator to generate. And it’ll get to work for you. I tried it by trying to create an Easter image for the season. So I said, “I want an image of Jesus walking out of the tomb after resurrection with the tombstone rolled out and so on”, and it immediately sent my query for safety check, probably because it had words like ‘tomb’, but it’s good they’re building the safety check into it as well. So I highly recommend you give it a try. Could be useful for a lot of ministry applications to generate unique images that you don’t see outside. AI generate images that you could use on blogs, social media.

🗞️ News 4: TikTok Launches Effect House Branded Effects to Enable AR Campaigns

Source: TikTok

In spite of last week being a busy one for TikTok, where its CEO appeared before the US Congress, they seem to be releasing new features. Last week they announced a new feature called Branded Effects, which lives inside the Effects House. Effects House is the one where as a creator or as a designer you can go in and you can create your own augmented reality AR effects. That is when you use TikTok, you would’ve seen effects like having a mask or having something, an augmented reality element, appearing inside the video, that you can wear or it’s on your face etc. So you can create that inside the Effects House. Now they’re bringing Branded Effects, which means, for example, as a ministry, you can create your own branded mask, or your own branded helmet or a face effect or something like that. And users can actually use that when they create videos. This will be branded. And this helps you run new types of AR campaigns.

🗞️ News 5: OpenAI Releases ChatGPT Plugins Adding More Capability to the Tool

Source: OpenAI

OpenAI announced that they are launching ChatGPT Plugins. This isa significant and a smart move by OpenAI because as powerful as ChatGPT is, it is still limited by the way it learns. It is limited to the training data, but these plugins, which sit right in between ChatGPT and other databases with a lot of information in them, kind of acts as a funnel that can inject this information into ChatGPT. Therefore, it can give meaningful output to people that are asking questions. So it really changes a lot of dynamics in the AI industry. For example: Expedia is now part of this testing which has a lot of information about the travel industry, locations, Klarna shopping, which has a lot of information about online prices of products , all of these are part of this testing. So they will inject all this information in to ChatGPT, opening up new possibilities and use cases.
