Hello and welcome to the #AskNatchi show. Today we have a question about releasing social media ads – like Facebook ads, and TikTok ads, and YouTube ads during this season of COVID. So should you release it? Is it a good idea? That’s the question.
First, be more sensitive and less salesy
First of all, the answer is: if you have the budget and if you have the strategy in place, definitely YES. Go ahead and do it. But I also want to tell you during the season… before I go to the actual reasons of why you should do a social media ad, I also want to tell you one important thing. Be very sensitive. Be very conscious of the fact that people are going through certain things and your ad or your advertising should not just be about yourself. When you’re selling something or pushing something or making people take an action, it’s gotta be something that helps people, that is also relevant to them, that makes sense to them. Be sensitive to what’s going on around you. Okay? I just want to make sure you understand that because that’s the kind of people that I’m talking to. That’s what I believe. It’s not just marketers who are just trying to sell, but people who are human, people who are understanding of the situation and really wanting to help people. Just keep that in mind. Now let’s go to why you need to do it. There are 3 reasons.
Reason #1: To make use of excess ad-inventory
There are lot more people online. Which means more people are available for social media channels to show their ads to. Think about that. More people are looking at Facebook and other social media channels, which means there’s a larger inventory for Facebook or any other organization to show ads to… more eyebals. Which means the costs are going to be a little lower. In fact, even in our (agency) practice, we have seen some of these costs getting lower. So this is a great time for you to release your ads.
Reason #2: To leverage lesser competition
Your competition is less. There are many industries, large industries like manufacturing and other industries who are not able to release ads at this point in time. Or they don’t want to release ads. So they are out of the picture, which means you have an opportunity to go in and release ads. That’s another way to look at it. And also people’s budgets are low. So if you have budgets, and if you are able to release ads, that’s great. So that’s another reason.
Reason #3: To help people by meeting their needs
And finally, the reason is there’s a lot of need out there and sometimes the only way people can meet their needs is by using online. And Advertising is the way to help people meet that need. If you have something that would help people and you want to reach out to them, then released ads.
Marketing is about meeting someone’s needs
That’s how I learned marketing. I think I’ve told you before, for me, the definition of marketing is not trying to sell something or push something, but actually meet the need of someone. There is a good product and there’s a right audience – when those two meet, that is good marketing and advertising. So if you have a good product for the right audience at this time, which would help them, and it makes sense, and in the right way, with a good message, in a straightforward manner, released those ads and go ahead and help those audience.
